Sounds like the uplift to the drop of an edm track, but can also be used as a firework sound effect, or for a bomb dropping. Created using a low-passed square wave, over-compressing it, distorting it, playing 2 notes a semitone apart and pitch shifting.

Fireworks recorded amidst the buildings of an apartment complex. Lowpassed around 1khz. Slightly expanded dynamic range. I cut as many incidental noises as i could hear on my headphones (cars, neighbors, etc) but there's still some residual hum from an electrical box that was nearby as well as wind. A neighbor of mine might have just peed in his pants if he couldn't shoot off his illegal commercial fireworks before the fourth. So, july first, his manly outpouring of window-rattling bomb blasts echoed across an entire valley. For nearly two hours. I like fireworks. When i go to see 'em. Not so much when i can't get away from them. Sure, i could have gone shopping, or out for a drink. I recorded it instead. This particular explosion is just the largest of those that came after i started recording. It's just a lowly iphone but it does pretty well. Admittedly, even with no amplification it might have been too much for the microphone. You have the clear launch sound followed by burst and echo. Where we live the fireworks laws are pretty lax so people go crazy with them. Here is a recording from the day before independence day (yesterday) as people were blowing up part of their arsenal ahead of time. In a few hours i will be recording as things get really crazy. Our neighbors on three sides will light off the thousands of dollars of fireworks that they have purchased. Many of them are illegal (purchased from indian reservations) so there will be some big booms. Back to this recording. It is recorded with my "fake head" binaural setup, hanging from a tripod at the crest of the garage roof. There is a tree a few feet away and a light breeze is rustling the leaves. Here is a bit of a timeline:. 0:00 kids across the street light off a few fireworks4:05 the neighbors across the street were having a party, and the guests begin to leave. 6:30 the guest of honor honks and yells "love you" as she drives away. 8:00 the kids across the street go inside. Now all you hear are fireworks in the distance, all over town. 32:17 someone lights what must be a million firecrackers. They continue until 51:20 - 19 minutes!!!.

The omnis on my humble dr-05 did a pretty good job capturing the sheer depth of zillions of people blowing stuff up together :-). You’ll hear: people having a party in the distance, a bonfire crackling on the right, a distant train blowing its whistle, and of course a lot of explosions. A couple of the big bangs clipped, but unsurprisingly, it made no audible difference. I reduced to 48khz, 24 bit and normalized to -3. 0 db. It really wakes up when you apply some eq to your liking. But i left it as is for everybody.

This is a recording made from the balcony of my apartment in italy in the province of rieti, the other evening during the two-hour new year's barrels. From 11 they gradually begin to increase gradually until midnight when they get really strong, then gradually decrease gradually until ten to one, when you hear all silence. This recording was done with my iphone 11 connected to the shure mv88 plus digital stereo microphone.
